A fantastically fun evening event in the Spring that raises money for our school! First you come and enjoy delicious appetizers, and participate in a few silent auctions at your leisure...all leading up to the exciting live auction with a catered buffet!
What do I do when I get there?
When you arrive at Lake City Elks, please register to sign in, collect an addendum, bid number, and sign up for express pay if you wish (prepay your purchases by swiping your credit card; you pay only for the items you've won). This is optional as you are welcome to pay with cash or credit card before leaving at the end of the evening. Then have fun mingling with other parents and look around at the silent auction.
How does the Silent Auction work?
It's like a sale - you'll have a chance to buy items that have been donated by John Rogers students, parents, teachers, staff, and local businesses! Each donation is displayed with a bid sheet and a pen. You record the amount you'd be willing to pay. Another person may come by and offer more money, making a higher bid. At the end of the auction, the person with the highest bid goes home with the item! You will likely find some great bargains - each donated item starts off with an initial bidding price typically 50% below retail value!
There will be three sections of silent auction which will close one after the other. Come early so you can get the best bargains!
How does the Live Auction work?
At 7:15pm, the last silent auction ends and you'll be directed to the dining room for a buffet and the live auction! Raise your paddle to bid on the live auction item presented.
Where do the auction items come from?
Families from the school donate many of the items, but we also have excellent community support from local businesses. Many restaurants, sports teams, theaters, and stores give goods and services to help our school. In addition, each classroom works on a "class project" that the students donate. Teachers and staff also donate their time for some creative outings which are very popular!
How do I pay and get my item?
At the end of the auction, go to the check-out table to pick up your list of items you've won. If you've signed up for express pay then pick out your items directly and head home. Otherwise, continue to the cashiering table to pay for your items with cash, check, or Visa/MC.
Where does all the money go?
John Rogers PTA collects all the money and uses it throughout the year for the sole benefit of our students! The PTA funds classroom extras, technology improvements, art and science enrichment, accelerated math and reading, field trips, library materials, after school activities, and many PTA events.
What is the attire?
This is a casual event - come in jeans or a cocktail dress!
Can I bring kids?
This is an adult-only party - alcohol is served. Leave your kids with a babysitter and come enjoy an evening out with dinner included and lots of fun!
What is the "Sponsor a Teacher" program?
The PTA invites the teachers and staff to be our guests at the auction. It's a small way to thank them for all the hard work they do every day. You can help by adding $25 to your reservation to help defray the costs. We would like all the teachers and staff to be sponsored! It's anonymous and a thoughtful way to show your appreciation. Are my donations tax-deductible?
Definitely! Our PTA is a tax exempt nonprofit corporation under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
